Gortan Paola

Paola Gortan was born in San Daniele del Friuli on February 12, 1970. In 1989 she graduated as an accountant from the V.Manzini Technical Commercial Institute in San Daniele del Friuli. A year later she visited the Mosaic School in Spilimbergo, fell in love with mosaic and enrolled in the courses. In June 1994 she graduated as a master mosaicist and from then on mosaic became her work, hobby and her prevalent artistic expression. She opened her atelier located at 11 Udine Street, San Daniele in 1996. She collaborates with several mosaic craftsmen and artists in the creation of floor and wall works for Italian and foreign commissions. For several years she has collaborated with the Orsoni firm in Venice, on whose behalf she has created works for several luxury brands such as Bulgari, Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Missoni and Rolex. Since the beginning of his career she has also devoted herself to the conception and realization of mosaic and sculptural works of art. She creates several commissions both public and private. Among the most significant are: the bronze sculpture "Hope" , located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in San Daniele del Friuli; the portrait of Dr. Farroni at the restaurant of the same name in San Daniele del Friuli; the mosaic covering the entrance facade of the elementary school "Dante Alighieri" in San Daniele del Friuli. Since 2007 she has combined her artistic activity with her work as a teacher, organizing and teaching mosaic courses for children, teens and adults, both at her workshop and as an outside teacher at the renowned Mosaic School in Spilimbergo. She has also taught the art of mosaic at the Tolmezzo, Pordenone and Udine penitentiary institutions and to people with disabilities, contributing to their insertion or reintegration, into the working world.
