An award in memory of Mario Donà

From the artistic glassworks Mario Donà & Figli an award to a deserving student of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.

It is dedicated to Mario Donà, founder of the Spilimbergo furnace where mosaic enamels are produced, an award that his children Nicoletta and Marco Donà, current owners of the company, wanted to make available to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. This is the “Mario Donà” Merit Award which was awarded to the student of the specialization course (a.f. 2023/2024) Dalila Loiacono whose professional skills, but above all her participation, consistency and availability were recognised.
The award was awarded in the presence of Nicoletta and Marco Donà during the inaugural ceremony of the Mosaico&Mosaici 2024 exhibition, an exhibition event that distinguishes the summer period of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli and offers the visiting public the best of the mosaic works and projects created in the past training year.

The Award of Merit was established by the management and teaching staff of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli with the desire to highlight the noteworthy behavior of a student. That is, we want to identify and reward those who, due to their attitude, dedication and involvement, have played a positive and proactive role during daily activity, showing themselves as an added value to the achievement of objectives. That is, we do not intend to highlight the best student, that is, the one who demonstrates the best technical and expressive levels, but rather to underline how important, in the world of work, the so-called “soft skills”, those skills linked to emotions and sensitivity, to the qualities relationships, creativity, responsibility and professional ethics.
It is these transversal characteristics that the Mosaic School of Friuli cultivates in its students, preparing them for a work environment where they can be appreciated and receive the necessary satisfaction. Hence the desire on the part of Nicoletta and Marco to honor the memory of their father Mario Donà by providing a voucher for the purchase of materials, at their own furnace, worth one thousand euros.

Mario Donà was a son of art, inheriting the family passion for glass and colors, developed through formulas and experiments inside his father Ugo’s furnace. From Venice, Mario then moved to Spilimbergo to start his company, now managed by his children, which supplies Venetian enamels and eco-enamels of numerous shades to the laboratories of the Spilimbergo area and beyond. The Donà family’s bond with the art of mosaic and with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli whose students are always welcome guests in the company is therefore inseparable.
Tenacity, care and passion for a difficult profession, where precision and experience are required, have distinguished the figure of Mario Donà and for this reason Nicoletta and Marco, heirs of that knowledge, wanted to reward a student who had distinguished himself for these qualities, a student is therefore capable of fulfilling his dream of becoming a master of mosaic, where enamels are used as raw material, color and light, of his own works, conceived and executed.

To the applause of the Donà family for this commendable gesture, we add compliments to the student Dalila Loiacono who brilliantly concluded the specialization course by sharing with the other students the design and execution of important mosaics including: the large panel for the Corno di Rosazzo civic library, the decoration of the G. Narvesa primary school in Pordenone, the composition that will be located in San Giorgio della Richinvelda in the autumn, the expansion of the mosaic wall of the bathing establishment n. 5 of Lignano Pineta.
