General Information
This technique, used by Friulian mosaicists from 1867 onwards, allows the creation of perfect compositional works whose surface is completely smooth. Adopted for the first time by the mosaicist Giandomenico Facchina for the mosaic coverings of the Garnier Opera in Paris, it then quickly spread all over the world. Technically, it consists in gluing the tesserae onto mosaic paper on which the drawing was previously transferred in reverse (a mirror image). The glue used is water-soluble and is made with flour, water, glycerine, Arabic gum and food preservative. Once the composition is finished, the cement is applied on the mosaic with a spatula and placed on a wooden board on which the tile adhesive was previously spread. The next step is to smooth everything out and moisten the paper with water. The paper will then be removed and the whole thing will be brushed until a clean surface is obtained. This technique is particularly suitable for making tables, table tops and floors.

Revers on paper technique
The reverse on paper technique consists in gluing the tesserae onto mosaic paper on which the drawing was previously transferred in reverse (a mirror image).
Once the composition is finished, cement is applied to the mosaic and then it is laid on a wooden board.
The surface is then smoothed and the paper moistened with water.
The paper is then removed and the mosaic is brushed until the surface is clean and smooth.
