Positive results for the MOsaico exhibition
The exhibition dedicated to mosaics, the protagonist of the Tolmezzo summer, closed on Sunday 17 September 2023.
Promoted by the Municipality of Tolmezzo and curated by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, the MOsaico exhibition was inaugurated on 15 July at Palazzo Frisacco and also remained open during the “Apple Festival” event (16-17 September 2023) with an offer of guided tours and mosaic demonstrations. These were the last appointments of a calendar full of collateral events which had the mosaic as its central subject, examined from different angles, starting from the four in-depth meetings, hosted in the Museum Service Center Hall (adjacent to the Museo Carnico delle Arti Popolari “Michele Gortani”) who had as speakers the director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Gian Piero Brovedani, the professor of mosaic history Danila Venuto, the director of the Aquileia Foundation Cristiano Tiussi and the director of the CRAF-Centre for Research and Archiving of Photography Alvise Rampini. Added to these are the introductory mosaic workshops for children and adults conducted by the master mosaicist Noemi Roma, qualified at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. The guided tours of the exhibition were then a valid support for the knowledge and understanding of the different expressive forms that characterize mosaic over the centuries.
The exhibition itself, through the works created by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, followed a chronological path in its layout which starting from the ground floor with the copies of floor mosaics from Aquileia, passing through the Byzantine figures, developed with the contemporary proposals on the first floor until reaching the third with photographic portraits that look to the mosaic as a source of inspiration.
An exhibition of great appeal, capable of directly describing the thousand faces of mosaic art which, commonly known as ancient Roman art, has evolved and transformed like all forms of art up to the present day, adapting to taste and needs of the present, responding to functions of public decoration, but also of artisticity and personalization in private spaces with solutions that involve furnishings and design projects.
The mosaic at the center therefore, from the rooms of Palazzo Frisacco to the collateral events strongly supported by the municipal administration of Tolmezzo which was also the promoter of the leaflet distributed at the exhibition in which a map of the main artistic mosaics present in Carnia was drawn with the aim of expanding knowledge of this art in the area.
An all-round exhibition which, starting from the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, and thanks to this important institution, has been able to involve different professionals, creating moments of knowledge and rapprochement with an art that represents a peculiarity of Friuli and thanks to which our region continues to be a protagonist on an international level.
