The events of Friday 22 April

Started with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli protagonist of large decorations in architectural spaces, the rich afternoon of Friday 22 April 2022 ended with the same School in the center instead of a small but very precious space, that of a new stamp from the series’ the Excellence of knowledge’.

A meeting dedicated to the relationship between mosaic and architecture was held at 2.30 pm at Palazzo Tadea. Through a series of questions posed by Bernardino Pittino, Paolo Coretti, architect and Giulio Candussio, artist and mosaicist, had a dialogue. The comparison between the two professionals in the design phase is interesting. The mosaic inserted in the architecture should never be a simple covering of surfaces, but an integration with the structure and the surrounding space in a union of beauty and function.

In developing the great decorations of civil and sacred buildings, the artists handed the sketches to the School to be translated into mosaics. It was then the mosaic master who mediated and translated the artist-creator’s proposals: that pictor imaginarius that gives the title to the exhibition inaugurated at 18.00 in the Galleria of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, with the greeting of the president Stefano Lovison. Also present were the mayor of Spilimbergo Enrico Sarcinelli and the councilors Anna Bidoli and Ester Filipuzzi. In the former Palazzina of the Somsi, today the School’s exhibition gallery, you can admire preparatory sketches, painted tables and models, signed by great Italian and foreign artists, all preserved in the School Archive. These are the works of the witnesses, as the director Gian Piero Brovedani said in his introduction, of the many mosaics made in one hundred years of activity and have contributed to making the School the absolute protagonist of mosaic art.
The exhibition will be open exceptionally, like the School, for the whole weekend (Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April) from 10.00 to 19.00, with free admission.

Thanks to a close collaboration between mosaic artisans and traders from Spilimbergo, the Mosaics in showcase project was created for the first time, where works by mosaicists are housed in the shop windows of the historic center. With an inaugural walk, which ended in Piazza Garibaldi, was also highlighted with the presence of Silvano Pascolo, president of Confartigianato Imprese Pordenone, and Paolo Rosset, president of Confcommercio Spilimbergo, the potential of a synergy that becomes a living expression of the territory, a proposal that opens up to new participation scenarios.

At 7.00 pm, at the end of the day, the issue of the stamp dedicated to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli took place again at Palazzo Tadea.
