The laboratories of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli reopen
Workshop-type training has resumed at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, thanks to the recent Regional Ordinance n. 12 issued by the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region on May 3, 2020.
At the beginning of March, according to the Prime Minister’s Decree, the School had to close its doors, but in fact teaching did not stop with frontal lessons replaced by distance learning. If this is a viable solution for theoretical subjects, such as the history of mosaic or technology of materials, all the requirements for learning the mosaic and the terrace are different, where manual skills are as essential as, if not more, of simple vision. Online lessons therefore cannot be enough, they need contact with materials, the use of specific equipment, practical exercises. Experiential learning is the foundation of all the Schools of Art and Craft where the artistic craftsmanship of the Italian tradition is taught, the excellence of Made in Italy.
The recent Ordinance of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region takes into account the importance of the laboratory activity, not otherwise exercisable remotely, and opens the possibility to its development.
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli which had planned the possible safe return of pupils and teachers at this time, is now ready to start again, with a series of provisions to reduce any risk of proximity and aggregation and a protocol that includes shifts and respect for distances. These measures allow the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli to be the first school to open after the long and forced interruption. A challenge that is not easy and that requires constant monitoring imposed by this particular period.
For their part, the students welcomed the news: it is undeniable that mosaic and terrace lessons are their main interest, where in addition to learning techniques and styles, they can express their creativity.
The recovery of the laboratories, which we recall involves the three courses of the professional path and the specialization course, has therefore begun: it will be gradual and weighted, with suitable solutions designed to ensure operation and at the same time safety.
