Tolmezzo promotes the art of mosaic
After the inauguration of the MOsaico exhibition which took place in Tolmezzo, at Palazzo Frisacco, on Saturday 15 July, and which can be visited until Sunday 17 September 2023, the initiatives promoted by the Administration of the Carnic town in the field of mosaic art continue.
In fact, a rich calendar of meetings will characterize the summer in Tolmezzo, hosted in the Sala Centro Servizi Museale (adjacent to the Carnic Museum of Popular Arts “Michele Gortani”) from 18.00. It begins on Saturday 5 August 2023 with the director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Gian Piero Brovedani. An evolving tradition, this is the title of the appointment in which the director Brovedani will discuss the evolution of the mosaic over the centuries, but also how the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, the only internationally recognized center for the training of Master Mosaicists, it has been transformed over the course of a century of activity, becoming a promoter of expressive research in line with current tastes, albeit in compliance with an artisan technique that has always been transmitted to students with dedication and passion.
A direct reference to the Palazzo Frisacco exhibition where you can understand and admire the various expressive forms of the mosaic: from Roman floors to Byzantine solemnity, up to contemporary proposals also declined in sculpture and design. A rich and articulated path that represents a Friulian “know-how” and which has roots in the history of the western foothills when numerous workers emigrated first to Venice (already in the sixteenth century) and in the nineteenth century to Europe and then overseas to create terrazzo floors and walls mosaiced, professionals sought after for their technical skills and their ability to decorate and beautify, figures who also knew how to become far-sighted entrepreneurs.
The events, collateral to the exhibition and dedicated to the mosaic, will continue on Friday 18 August with the professor of mosaic history Danila Venuto, to then host the director of the Aquileia Foundation Cristiano Tiussi on Saturday 2 September and conclude on Friday 8 September with the director of the CRAF-Centre of Research and Archiving of Photography Alvise Rampini.
In-depth evenings with illustrious speakers to get closer to an ancient and current art, capable of playing with light and color, of resisting time, of embellishing surfaces, of giving originality and personality to spaces and furnishings; meetings that will help to better appreciate the works on display, grasping the material qualities and the processing details.
