The new Master Mosaicists 2025
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli celebrates them with a public ceremony
In a well-attended ceremony, certificates of professional qualification were handed over to the students who completed their training at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. This afternoon, Thursday 19 June 2025, at the Palazzo la Loggia, in Piazza del Duomo in Spilimbergo, the new Master Mosaicists were publicly proclaimed: Purnima Allinger, Mariia Amosova, Alessio Berrini, Van Dao Carchio, Yana Isaieva, Elisa Pielli, Valeriia Radchenko, Fabio Radicioni, Rossella Raimondi, Irena Stoimenov, Sara Tozzi, Nina Zakharova.
Behind these names are hopes, joys and satisfactions, but also hardships, trials and failures, which, after all, mark every journey towards a goal. For these now former students, the goal was clear: to learn an art in its techniques, its styles, its expressive possibilities, i.e. to become recognised Master Mosaicists.
Enrolled between 2021 and 2022 with the idea that mosaic was a fascinating artistic form that needed to be explored, that contact with the material could be congenial to them and that the creative spirit bubbling within them would finally find a concrete manifestation, at today’s ceremony they present themselves aware that they have a trade in their hands, that they are professionals in the mosaic art, artisans capable of continuing to nourish the great Friulian tradition of mosaic and terrazzo.
‘This joyous moment concludes the 103rd year of training activities of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli,’ declared the president of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Stefano Lovison, as he greeted the audience of family, friends, students and former students who had come to applaud and congratulate the new Master Mosaicists. President Lovison then wished to thank the teachers and all the School’s administrative and technical staff, who were also in the audience, together with several mayors and councillors from entities belonging to the Consorzio della Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. ‘It is an institution supported by the commitment of so many individuals who share its values and who, over the years, have enabled the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli to become a world reference point in the art of mosaic’.
He then concluded by addressing a thought to the new Master Mosaicists, all seated in the front row. “I wish you all the best for your personal and professional future. The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli will always be at your side and will always welcome you for support, advice or even just to share in your successes’.
Also bringing greetings and good wishes to the young Mosaicists were Enrico Sarcinelli, mayor of Spilimbergo, an adopted town for all the School’s students, and Enrico Odorico, vice-president of the Comunità di Montagna delle Prealpi Friulane Orientali (Mountain Community of the Eastern Friulian Pre-Alps), mayor of Sequals.
And it is precisely to the ability to respond to the demands of the current labour market and to innovate by keeping up with contemporary needs that the director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Gian Piero Brovedani, reminded the Master Mosaicists of the awarding of another certificate, that for attendance at the work safety course held during the past training year. There was also the introduction of an internship period held in local mosaic companies, which for some of the new mosaicists has already opened up immediate job opportunities.
This was followed by the presentation of the certificates to the visibly excited individual students, amidst photographs and applause. As their names were called, the various nationalities and origins became clear: almost half of the qualified Master Mosaicists in this 2024/2025 training year are in fact from abroad. From Friuli, from Bari, from Varese, from Rome, from Ancona and from Trentino the Italian students who shared all the excitement of an intense three-year training period with those who came to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli from Germany, Russia and Ukraine. A multicultural group if you want to call them that, but here we prefer to call them friends and companions on a journey from which they received much, but also gave as it happens for all students who come to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.
For them, different roads now open up: someone will return to their hometown with a range of proposals in hand, someone already has a contract in their pocket in the mosaic sector, someone else has far-sighted plans far from Italy, perhaps to study further or enhance other skills. The curious thing is that no one foresees a summer of rest: the energy of having reached this important milestone fuels new projects, with the awareness that everything learned at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, from a technical as well as a human point of view, is a foundation for any work and professional experience one wishes to undertake.
