CREAttivo #9: a project leading up to Pordenone 2027
The CREAttivo #9 ideas competition – Cammino dell’Acqua dal Noncello al Livenza (The Water Trail from the Noncello to the Livenza), organised by Maravee Projects – Associazione Culturale Maravee with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, is open to students of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.
Now in its ninth edition, the competition involves the creation of mosaic works on street furniture already in production. The aim is to produce unique pieces that blend into the landscape whilst fulfilling specific functions. This approach has led to the creation of children’s playgrounds in Gorizia and Aquileia, street furniture for the park at Gemona del Friuli Castle, and further pieces for exhibitions and the recent theatre production.
The CREAttivo Project involves the entire region, engaging different partners depending on the themes and objectives: from furniture and design firms such as Snaidero, Gervasoni, Very Wood and Legnolandia to local authorities and cultural institutions such as the Aquileia Foundation and, indeed, the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.
The School’s students are challenged to propose a mosaic inlay that adheres to the chosen theme and the functional requirements of the object they are working on, whilst ensuring that the production criteria are compatible with industrial timeframes and finishes. The most significant projects submitted are selected and then executed by the students who conceived them.
This year, the competition focuses on the major event in Pordenone, the 2027 Capital of Culture. It is therefore aimed at the western Friuli region, asking pupils to produce design proposals for original mosaics to be incorporated into wooden noticeboards manufactured by Legnolandia. These unique and artistic display boards will be installed along nature trails and in parks in the municipalities of Cordenons, Porcia, Pasiano di Pordenone and Brugnera.
