Mosaico&Mosaici. The exhibition opens
A must-see summer event in our region is the Mosaico&Mosaici exhibition, which opens this year on 31 July at 6.30 pm at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.
Mosaico&Mosaici is the annual exhibition organised by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, where visitors can admire a selection of the finest works created during the 2025–2026 academic year. These mosaics showcase the work produced by the three courses that make up the advanced vocational training programme for Master Mosaic Artists: the works are always fresh because, whilst the skills the students must master remain constant, the way in which they are learnt can be approached through original projects that change every year, offering visitors a variety of experiences that are never repetitive. In short, this is an exhibition that never grows tiresome, year after year; on the contrary, it demonstrates how the art of mosaics is constantly evolving, vibrant and relevant, capable of remaining true to traditional craftsmanship whilst also taking the form of more contemporary artistic solutions open to current expressive trends and needs.
We will thus move from the Roman technique using natural materials to three-dimensional forms covered in glazes, where the tiles lose their regularity to play with the light. There will be small-scale individual works, as well as large panels created collaboratively; there will be no shortage of portraits, Byzantine-style icons, reverse-side modules on paper featuring graphic optical or botanical motifs, right through to the original and innovative creations experimented with by the students on the most recent course. Sculptural forms will stand out, where the mosaic becomes a narrative, bringing surfaces to life and shaping them in relation to the light.
Mosaico&Mosaici 2026 also extends beyond the classrooms of the school building: visitors can admire the outdoor paving, featuring a vast mosaic surface depicting flora and fauna from Friuli Venezia Giulia, as well as the exhibition dedicated to the artist Nane Zavagno (1932–2025) – a tribute by the third-year students who, inspired by Zavagno’s poetic vision and creative journey, have created their own mosaic works.
The Mosaico&Mosaici 2026 exhibition, which promises to be full of surprises, will open on Friday 31 July at 6.30 pm in the outer courtyard of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli in Spilimbergo. In the event of bad weather, the opening will take place at the Cinema Teatro Miotto in Spilimbergo, Viale Barbacane, 15; this will be followed by a tour of the exhibition. As always, the opening event will also be a celebration open to all: an opportunity to discover and, above all, to celebrate the hard work carried out by the students during the academic year that has just come to an end.

The Mosaico&Mosaici exhibition will be open:
from 1 August to 6 September 2026,
every day (including 15 August)
from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 15.30 to 20.00.
