A prestigious award was given to two students of the Mosaic School of Friuli: it is the Facchina Prize, reserved by the Municipality of Sequals to two students of the first course of the Spilimberghese Institute, distinguished for the best final essay performed in mosaic, realized in this case, at the conclusion of the a.f. 2017-2018.
Complimenting himself with the mosaic performers, the mayor of Sequals Enrico Odorico and the president of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli Stefano Lovison presented the award to Viviana Mora Strohmenger (for course 1A) and to Eric Osei Bonsu (for course 1B) respectively for the works “Alloro, papaveri e fiori di viburno” (mosaic interpretation of a portion of the frescoes of the domus of the Pompeii gold bracelet) and “Papere su fior di loto” (copy of the floor of the Basilica of Emmaus-Nicopolis in Israel) that will remain exposed at the headquarters of the Municipality of Sequals for a year. The two students, happy for the award, thanked the teachers Giulia Palamin and Elena Pauletto for the fruitful and stimulating work done together.
The Municipality of Sequals, in addition to being a historical body of the Consortium for the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, is also the place where the mosaicists of the modern era were born. The most well-known is that Gian Domenico Facchina which was entitled the Prize, mosaicist and entrepreneur, famous for the parietal and floor mosaics of the Opera Garnier in Paris, as well as for countless other prestigious mosaic works in the world. Speaking of historical mosaicists, the Mayor of Sequals himself carries a surname that says it all: Odorico. He himself with passion tells the students of the School the experiences of his ancestors, who were established mosaicists in Moscow, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Rennes, Copenhagen. “It’s a personal story that also crosses the history of a territory and that can only find affinity with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, where – as the Odorico Mayor emphasizes – it is always a pleasure to meet and the prize made available to the students is always done with the heart “.
For the two winning students, Viviana and Eric, we can only wish a serene future with great satisfaction!
