Competition “A MOSAIC… in SCHOOL” for the schools of the region

The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli with the support of Friulovest Banca has launched a prize competition aimed at schools in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Presented on Friday 23 September 2022 in a press conference by Stefano Lovison, president of the Consortium for the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli and by Alberto Grassetti, delegated by the Presidency and member of the Board of Directors of Friulovest Banca, the competition aims to bring students closer to mosaic , living art in our region, expression of a knowledge that has been handed down and renewed in western Friuli since the Sixteenth century.
For schools wishing to join, the competition offers three proposals: actual participation in an artistic competition which includes prizes offered by Friulovest Banca; the possibility of carrying out free guided visits to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli with the individual classes; the opportunity for teachers to take practical introductory courses to mosaic art in the School’s workshops.
Teachers and students will thus be able, through a series of experiences, to know and appreciate the mosaic. If for the former it is a refresher course, developed over two days that each participating school will agree on, the latter, the students, require a creative effort: the execution of a graphic elaborate on the theme Our territory: city, landscapes, architecture and suggestions in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Each class of primary, first and second grade secondary schools in the region may present one or more sketches which, performed with any technique, illustrate and narrate views, places, environments and situations that make up the landscape and cultural heritage, as well as the identity of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
These papers will be evaluated by a Commission which will choose the most deserving ones to be translated into mosaic. The students of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli will carry out this activity and transform the image on paper into a work of about 70X100 cm that will be returned to the class. To the school from which the winning class comes, Friulovest Banca provides a cash award, in addition to supporting the costs for the execution.
All schools participating in the competition will also have the opportunity to enter and get to know the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli: a special visit conducted by experts, which in addition to illustrating the evolution of the mosaic through the centuries and showing the works that have made the An international school, it will give the opportunity to see how the mosaic is born and how from a pebble you reach the tessera, the basic element of every mosaic composition.
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli together with Friulovest Banca hopes that the competition will be a stimulus to observe and appreciate once again our territory which, among its peculiarities, also has the art of mosaics. Precisely for this reason the competition is aimed at schools so that every student of the region can insert the voice “mosaic” in his or her wealth of knowledge, acquired however with creative and group experiences, a harbinger of emotions and beauty not only for the protagonists, but for all those who will admire the mosaics made in the winning schools.
