A new mosaic in Lignano Pineta
The mosaic work of the Simposio di Mosaico (Mosaic Symposium) 2024 was inaugurated in Lignano Pineta. An expansion intervention which involved the seaside office n. 5 on the Kechler Waterfront.
In the presence of civil and religious authorities, representatives of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Lignano, the president Stefano Lovison and the director Gian Piero Brovedani of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, of a large audience gathered for the occasion, the president of the Lignano Pineta Society, Giorgio Ardito, discovered the new mosaic.
It is an extension of the mosaic work conceived by the artist Luigi Del Sal and created by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli in 2018 respecting a quadrangular area, traditional in its simplicity, which today is a little outdated, especially in comparison to the latest mosaics created to embellish the other factories in Lignano Pineta.
Based on a project by the designer Lucia Ardito, and in agreement with the heirs of the painter Del Sal, whose daughter Debora shared the memory of her father’s visit to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli at the inauguration, the Lignano Pineta Society therefore wanted to update the aspect of the 2018 mosaic with some additions that have increased its extension and made the perimeter more jagged.
Without affecting the original image created by Del Sal with the bathers on the seashore, the students of the specialization course of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli (a.f. 2023/2024) performed the additional parts respecting the compositional style used previously which sees a ‘regular alternation of large tiles surrounded by smaller tiles, all in brightly colored Venetian enamels.
The application and finishing of the mosaic intervention were done before the curious eyes of passers-by and tourists from Lignano. For a few days the mosaicist students, Jihyeon Lee, Dalila Loiacono, Alessia Lovato, Vsevolod Prokhorov, therefore worked, revealing the ancient knowledge of the art of mosaic. Many people stopped to ask and look, as well as many who, enthusiastically, wanted to try cutting some tiles and then applying them.
The mosaic of the bathing establishment n. 5, the Swiss flag, therefore seems to embrace the entire façade of the building and takes on more importance in that special walk among the mosaics which is the seafront of Lignano Pineta, where functional buildings, for access and services to the beach, take on an artistic importance capable of telling a lot about the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
