CREAttivo Award: competition of ideas for the students of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli
Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, in collaboration with the Maravee Cultural Association, offers its students (enrolled in the 2019/2020 training year) a competition of ideas aimed at creating mosaic surfaces for interior design.
The competition falls within the scope of the project CREAttivo. Eccellenze FVG tra arte e impresa (FVG excellences between art and business)conceived and directed precisely by the Maravee Cultural Association. This project, supported by the Department of Culture of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region through the “Creativity” Call, has the aim of grafting craft ideas, projects and knowledge into the manufacturing sector and at the same time bringing company methodologies and logistics into the artistic and didactic system to encourage sustainable creative productions, expressions of beauty, but also of the functionality of everyday life. Pursuing this aim, the project involves several excellences of the region in the manufacturing, artistic and didactic sector, as is the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, and foresees the participation of national and international designers.
I At this particular moment, where the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli promotes and implements distance learning, the Competition allows students to reflect on the complexity of the design phase of an artistic work and is a stimulus to their creativity, however lowered on needs and requests for quality and design furnishings. This is why the companies Gervasoni, Very Wood and Snaidero are partners of the project, which in addition to being involved in the selection of the projects presented, will evaluate the possible inclusion of some of them in their production.
The objective of the competition, as stated in the announcement: “is to select the most effective from the different sketches, both aesthetically and functionally, for a mosaic translation that must take into account the final execution in mosaic”.
The mosaic must be inserted, becoming an integral part of it, in a piece of furniture. Specifically, it is a kitchen worktop, a pouf and a chair: common elements present in every home and which at this time, where the house has also become a place of work and leisure for many, take on integrated values and functions .
With this initiative that solicits the ideational and design skills of the students, we also want to demonstrate the multiple potentials and variations that an ancient art such as that of mosaic, so tied to the craftsmanship tradition of the Friuli area, can find in the contemporary context, even in the furniture and design.
