In Pordenonelegge the hundred years of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli has been invited to the great literary and books festival that will start in a few days in Pordenone.
Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli 1922-2022 Cento anni di storia (Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli 1922-2022 One hundred years of history) this is the title of the rich volume that will be presented by Gian Piero Brovedani, director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, on Thursday 15 September, at 11.30 in Palazzo Montereale Mantica as part of the meeting. Spilimbergo nel segno del mosaico e della fotografia (Spilimbergo in the name of mosaic and photography) organized by Pordenonelegge 2022.
In reaching its hundredth year of activity, the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli retraced its history in a book of over 250 pages, in Italian and English, with a considerable array of illustrations, including archival documents and sketches. The result of a work of research and synthesis, texts and images accompany the reader through the decades, telling of works, masters, places and projects, but also of traditions, achievements, innovations without neglecting moments of difficulty with challenges and choices. which then determine the future. A book strongly desired to tell why and how the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli has become an excellence in the art of mosaic, a flagship of our region, a training center of international level. A reflection on the present that inevitably plumbs a century of life of the Institution, born in 1922 in a territory where the profession of the terrazziere and mosaicist was well rooted and resourcefulness, ability and competence, made the workers of western Friuli the protagonists of great decorative enterprises in around the world. This is the origin of the great adventure of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli which will be retraced during the meeting in Pordenone to reach our days, since the milestone of one hundred years must certainly be considered as an important stage of a path, which we hope, know no end. Therefore, in the final chapter (the book is divided into decades) there are hints of future projects, some already in place, others in the form of ambitious objectives on which to direct the energies. It is therefore an institution that must be considered as the heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia, an expression of the history, culture and knowledge of a territory, that of Spilimbergo and neighboring countries, which are still the seat of laboratories and an important center for mosaic production.
Scrolling through the pages, the three areas in which the School has distinguished itself and directs its activity emerge: training, promotion and production of the mosaic. There is much talk of this ancient and noble art in the book, not in technical or manual form, but through what the School has inherited, created and teaches: from the artisan practice collected from the workshops of western Friuli, to the solutions of modern mosaic put in field in the Nineteenth century from the famous Gian Domenico Facchina, mosaicist originally from Sequals, up to the innovations of the contemporary style with mixtures in furniture and design, with the use of experimental or recycled materials, with aesthetic choices aligned with current taste and needs daily. Knowing the history of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli is then a way to approach the art of mosaic which is not only the Roman pavement or the Byzantine one of the Ravenna basilicas, but is much more that the School is ready to show even with its constant being open to all those who wish to visit it.
The meeting Spilimbergo nel segno del mosaico e della fotografia (Spilimbergo in the name of mosaic and photography), coordinated by Marco Salvadori, will also see the participation of Silvana Annicchiarico, who will present Il Mosaico in Bianco e Nero (The Mosaic in Black and White) catalog of archive photos from CRAF and the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli on the figure of the terrazziere and mosaicist and his work, and by Walter Criscuoli who will illustrate the volume Uno sguardo nel labirinto della storia (A look into the labyrinth of history) accompanying the photographic exhibition by Maurizio Galimberti in Pordenone.
