Mosaic and leather, protagonists in Milan
The Colourful Magic of Leather & Mosaic/ Pelle e mosaico: magia di colori is the event organized by the Friulian company Dudubags in Milan, on 16-17 May 2024; set up in the central Spazio Lineapelle in Piazza Tomasi di Lampedusa, it will bring the art of mosaic into dialogue with the craftsmanship of leather through meetings, conferences and workshops.
Precisely to talk about mosaic, the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli was invited, already a partner of the Tiles of Color/Tessere di Colore project, a competition created by Dudubags and aimed specifically at the students of the third course and the specialization course, stimulating their creativity and ability to project the acquired technical skills beyond academic boundaries.
Dudubags looked to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli for the quality of its training offer and for its promotion and production in the mosaic field, for the way in which it preserves an artistic-craft tradition, still capable of looking to the contemporary.
Center of innovation in expressive research linked to mosaic, the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli has found affinity with the Dudubags company in the common interest in design, experimentation, comparison with the tastes and expectations of current society. With these premises, the collaboration for the Tiles of Color/Tessere di Colore competition was born, which the event in Milan will showcase, presenting all the projects developed by the students. The Scrigno (Casket) bag, the winning project of the competition, will also be on display, a concrete result where the mosaic integrates into the leather. Scrigno, designed by student Aurora Margarita, is a leather product, a bag with essential and elegant lines by Dudubags, but it is also a mosaic work resulting from patient work which, like an inlay, embellishes the leather surface, high quality, with minute gold tiles.
The participation of the president Stefano Lovison and the director Gian Piero Brovedani of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli in the name of craftsmanship where creativity, design, quality of materials, eco-sustainability and obviously passion and enthusiasm come into play.
Leather and mosaic: magic of colors will therefore have two protagonists: the Pordenone company Dudubags, managed by Enrica and Paolo Addario, sons of the founder Biagio, which designs and produces bags and accessories in soft nappa with attention to design expressed in essential shapes and brightly colored, and the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.
In this regard, President Lovison commented as follows: «When a company whose founding principles are design, quality and a careful look at the present knocks on the doors of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, it cannot help but find interest and welcome. Dudubags’ proposal immediately involved us, we saw its potential on an educational level: for our students it represented a further challenge, a way to put to the test what they learn every day in the laboratories, stimulating imagination and the capacity for contamination. The papers and design solutions they presented are all worthy of note and demonstrate once again that the mosaic is something alive and current, which precisely because of its history and nature, knows how to make materials and colors speak. Our students have experienced that leather can be an excellent support, but not as a background on which to apply tiles, but as part of a single surface where leather and colored and brilliant enamels come together and create counterpoints that will be revealed by the light and the natural movement of the soft surface. Unique, artistic pieces of mosaic and leather that will find recognition and valorization at the Lineapelle Space.».
