Mosaic&Glass Seminar

seminario Istituto Abate Zanetti

Mosaic&Glass Seminar

It was organized on Thursday 20 October 2022 by the MUVE Academy – Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, in collaboration with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli and the “Abate Zanetti” Higher Technological Institute, a study seminar entitled Mosaic&Glass with the mutual aim of undertaking research and insights into the art of mosaic and glass.
The seminar took place in Murano, a Venetian island known for its historic furnaces, at the headquarters of the “Abate Zanetti” Higher Institute, where a course dedicated to glass production is active.
After the institutional greetings of Chiara Squarcina, manager of the Foundation’s Museum Activities Area, the words of gratitude expressed by the president of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli Stefano Lovison followed. The reports were introduced by Lorenza Malvezzi, dean of the Zanetti Institute, who praised the start of the collaboration with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli with the hope of increasing mutual training knowledge. Andrea Tosi, teacher and coordinator for the teaching activities of the Zanetti Institute, retraced the history of the art of glass and the development of the specific training program within the Institute. It was Mattia Maguolo, also a teacher, who presented the courses in graphics and communication that qualify the Zanetti Institute. Eros Raffael, teacher of the glass workshops, illustrated the various types of glass processing. It is clear that the educational offer, integrating and enriching itself, allows those who attend the Zanetti Institute to acquire more creative and technical skills. Precisely to expand this wealth of knowledge and the range of future possibilities, the students of the Zanetti Institute, the director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli Gian Piero Brovedani recalled, will soon be guests in Spilimbergo, where in the School’s laboratories they will be able to confront themselves with the art of mosaic, thus following the collaboration and exchange initiated with the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia in the name of that ancient bond that united the Friulian artisans, mosaicists and terrazzieri, to the rich and noble lagoon city.

The words were then followed by visits to the glass workshops, which were guided by the teachers with the practical demonstrations of the students: it was possible to examine the work with lamp, furnace and glass fusion.
The study day continued at the Glass Museum, where the evolution of forms, productions and styles from the ancient Romans to the proposals signed by contemporary designers was retraced through the artefacts on display. Here the changes in taste over the centuries have clearly emerged, the refinement of techniques and the search for aesthetic solutions capable of keeping up with the demands of the market: a treasure chest of precious and delicate objects that demonstrate the expertise achieved in this. art by Venetian masters.
