The events of April for the Centenary

From Wednesday 20 April to Sunday 24 April 2022 Spilimbergo, City of the Mosaic, will come alive to celebrate the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. After the success of the ceremony on 22 January, when the start of the historic institution was commemorated at the Cinema Teatro Miotto, next week various meetings, exhibitions, visits, appointments are scheduled, which are part of the rich annual calendar. from the School for its hundred years.
These April days will be particularly engaging because they see the participation of the territory, in particular the support of the city administration, merchants, artisans, associations and many people committed to transforming the next weekend into a time of great celebration.

It starts with a conference on Wednesday 20 April 2022, at Palazzo Tadea, at 10.00. Guests will be hosted by the head of the Department of Arts of the Vatican Museums, Guido Cornini, and the art historian and former curator of the Tapestries and Textiles Department of the Vatican Museums, Anna Maria De Strobel. With these experts we will talk about mosaic through a comparison with other artistic forms such as fabrics and tapestries. The interventions will be coordinated by the architect Paolo Coretti who will also be present the next day, Thursday 21 April, for a round table on the institutions that deal with training in the art of mosaic, at Palazzo Tadea at 10.30. Paola Babini, didactic coordinator at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, the mosaic teachers Giovanni Alvich and Francesco Urso from the “Mario D’Aleo” artistic high school in Monreale (Palermo) and the director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli Gian Piero Brovedani will speak..
On Friday 22 April the numerous appointments will take place in the afternoon until late in the evening. At 2.30 pm at Palazzo Tadea the relationship between mosaic and architecture will be discussed with the professionals Paolo Coretti, Bernardino Pittino and Giulio Candussio: two architects in dialogue with a mosaic artist. At 18.00 the Pictor Imaginarius exhibition opens at the Gallery of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli with the precious sketches and cartoons preserved in the School Archive, silent witness of the uninterrupted artistic and formative activity of the Institution that we remember, it was the first of its kind in Italy.
Afterwards, thanks to the synergy between mosaic traders and artisans, and in collaboration with Confartigianato Imprese Pordenone, the windows of Corso Roma will be embellished with contemporary mosaic works. The walk among the mosaics will lead us at 7.00 pm to Palazzo Tadea for the issue of the commemorative stamp dedicated to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, included in the ‘Excellence of knowledge’ series. Here, on the ground floor, the Philatelic Mosaics exhibition will also be set up. In the same building, we recall, another exhibition is visible until 1 May 2022, A photo album for a hundred years of the School, which through images tells what the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli was and today is.
The weekend will see two meetings, again at Palazzo Tadea from 10.30. Saturday 23 Aprilwe will look at the mosaic in design with the architects Paolo Coretti, Bernardino Pittino and Ugo La Pietra who will bring his experience in the field of art and furniture where creativity must relate to functionality. Sunday 24th April the theme will be artistic craftsmanship and Silvano Pascolo president of Confartigianato Imprese Pordenone will participate, together with entrepreneurs, promoters, artists of the mosaic sector: Ugo La Pietra, architect and artist, Alberto Cavalli, director of the Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte Foundation, Sergio Moruzzi and Dagmar Friedrich mosaicists with an established laboratory, Marco Donà producer of Venetian enamels and eco-glazes.
In addition to these in-depth conversations, in these two days it will be possible to visit all the exhibitions in addition to the possibility of accessing and admiring the mosaics of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli from 10.00 to 19.00.
