The mosaic “Il Tagliamento” at the school of San Daniele del Friuli
At the “Dante Alighieri” primary school in San Daniele del Friuli, the mosaic work created based on the winning drawing/sketch of the “Un Mosaico… in Scuola” (“A Mosaic… in School”) competition was inaugurated, promoted by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli with the contribution of Banca 360 FVG, competition conceived and promoted for the hundred years of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.
Welcomed by the director of the Comprehensive Institute of San Daniele del Friuli, Tiziana Bortoluzzi, the president of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli Stefano Lovison with the director Gian Piero Brovedani, the education councilor of the Municipality of San Daniele del Friuli were present at the event Massimo Pischiutta, the parents’ representatives, as well as all the students, accompanied by their teachers, of the “G. Fontanini” of Villanova, now temporarily hosted at the school complex of San Daniele del Friuli. With surprise and pleasure, we also noted the presence of regional councilor Markus Maurmair, father of a pupil from the winning class, who wanted to express his appreciation for the initiative undertaken.
The winning class, which is now in its last year of primary school, led by teachers Francesca Blasutti and Francesca Furlano, wanted to tell how that drawing was born, which was then so appreciated by the competition judging commission. Through a comparison of many photographs proposed by each, the choice, as a place of the heart capable of uniting everyone, was an image of the Tagliamento river seen from the town of Carpacco, a landscape that the Villanova students knew well and felt as their own. The class said they were proud, happy and very excited to admire the mosaic which, during construction, they had been able to observe during a visit to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli last spring. It was the winning students who discovered the mosaic, which, hanging on the wall, had remained hidden during the institutional greetings.
Great enthusiasm therefore in seeing their landscape translated into the art of mosaic, where the surface is moved by different reliefs and the light together with the colors makes the image come alive.
The “Un Mosaico…in Scuola” (A Mosaic… in School) Competition
On 10 December 2022, in the event that concluded the celebrations for the hundred years of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, the results of the competition aimed at all schools in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region were announced, structured in three sections: primary schools, secondary schools of first degree and those of second degree.
Over 1,300 papers were presented by 190 classes. Regarding the primary school works, the competition commission identified the felt-tip drawing made by class IV, school year. 2022/2023 of the “G. Fontanini” of Villanova di San Daniele del Friuli. The pupils, guided by their teachers, in searching, as indicated in the notice, for a place in the regional territory to which they were particularly attached, had opted for the Tagliamento river, seen from the nearby town of Carpacco: a landscape where hills and mountains form the backdrop and the river flows wide in its gravelly bed between green plains. The marker, the technique chosen by the students, was applied in different ways to describe with the colored sign the different subjects that made up the view.
This aspect was appreciated during the competition which also included the creation of a mosaic of the winning sketches. Thus at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli the students of the a.f. specialization course 2022/2023 had dedicated themselves to translating and emphasizing this particular aspect of the essay presented by the Villanova school. The mosaic in fact re-proposes the landscape described with simplified forms yet rich in facets thanks to the selection of the materials used, various and specifically worked and cut to make the compositional elements: the Venetian enamel tiles have different sizes and arrangements, then there are the pebbles of river, up to specially modeled glazed ceramic spirals.
Thanks to the proposal of the Villanova class, the Istituto Comprensivo di San Daniele del Friuli also received, as per the announcement, a cash prize made available by Banca 360 FVG, partner of the “Un Mosaico…in Scuola” competition which allowed the winning school to invest in new equipment useful for teaching activities.
