The calendar dedicated to the cats of Spilimbergo
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, in its great hall, hosted, on Wednesday 19 November 2024, the presentation of the 2025 calendar Gjats di Spilimberc – The cats of Spilimbergo, wanted and curated by the Associazione Francesco d’Assisi. Per la tutela del gatto O.d.v. (Francis of Assisi Association. For the protection of the cat).
The calendar, in A3 format to hang, for each month combines the photographs of some historical guests of the 23 cat colonies in the Spilimbergo area with reproductions of mosaics created at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli which have the cat as their subject. The compositions show curious and cute combinations that describe the attitudes and customs of feline friends.
The calendar was designed with a charitable purpose: to increase the funds that the Association constantly needs to look after stray cats, thus providing for their care and adequate nutrition. The fourteen volunteers who currently make up the Association monitor around 190 cats. They carry out this activity in agreement and with the support of the Municipality of Spilimbergo and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, they are also committed to encouraging adoptions, sterilization and the protection of these animals that they love and respect.
A large audience wanted to participate in the event and, in appreciating the editorial work of the calendar, by winning a copy they made a contribution to the meritorious work of the Association.
The president of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Stefano Lovison, opened the meeting with his greetings. This was followed by the words of the councilor for family policies and associations of the Municipality of Spilimbergo, Marina Pellis, who wanted to frame the activity of the Francis of Assisi Association within the general and regulatory framework of the protection of animals and fight against stray felines, and praised the commitment of the volunteers, their tenacity and their love towards homeless kittens. The president of the Associazione Francesco d’Assisi, Bruna Zanon, left to her member Emilia Gregoris the explanation of how the idea of the calendar was born and developed which saw the contribution of the images of the Mosaic School of Friuli. In listing the purposes of the calendar, the intentions and long-term perspectives of the Association emerged, which aspires to an organized and structured space where it can provide temporary shelter to all stray kittens, not only from the Municipality of Spilimbergo. The calendar therefore aims to be a useful tool through which the Association sends a message of love towards cats and raises public awareness on the issue of stray animals.
To obtain a copy of the calendar, you can contact the Association directly at the facility in Via degli Alpini in Spilimbergo or get in touch with the volunteers who will be present at the Christmas market in the historic center of Spilimbergo on the Sundays of 8 and 15 December 2024.
