At EXPO 2025 in Osaka
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli is the protagonist at the Osaka Expo!
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli is among the entities selected to represent Friuli Venezia Giulia in the Italian Pavilion during the week of April 27 to May 3, 2025. Together with Palazzo del Fumetto, Cluster Legno, Arredo e Sistema Casa FVG, Fondazione Scriptorium Foroiuliense, Scuola Merletti di Gorizia and Museo Carnico delle Arti Popolari ‘Michele Gortani’, the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli represents the regional ‘know-how’ expressed in history and tradition, but also in continuity and innovation with quality works made with technical expertise and love.
As part of the Universal Exhibition 2025, whose overall theme is Designing the future society for our lives, the Italian Pavilion has chosen Art regenerates life as the leitmotif, which the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region has declined by enhancing the richness of the landscape, the artistic and enogastronomic heritage, the cultural, craft and artistic excellences, the UNESCO sites in the area, creating experiential moments and contact with Japanese culture.
In a showcase area dedicated to the School, the master mosaicists are busy presenting the art of mosaic to international visitors. In addition to a video of the School, three works are on display: two tall steles with regal figures in Byzantine style and a gilded sculpture in contemporary technique. Visitors are invited to touch the materials, the tesserae made of natural materials and Venetian enamels, to see how a mosaic work is developed (with the institutional image of Expo 2025), to experience the use of the hammer.
Three workshops have also been set up, each lasting about two hours, open to about twenty participants who will thus be able to compose a mosaic and explore other aspects of this art.
The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli proposes itself in Osaka as one of the variegated and rich Italian expressions of its high quality artistic craftsmanship, i.e. the creativity that manifests itself with ideas and hands, which represents a recognised value of our country, a synthesis of imagination, technique and research of materials that united together give meaning to the word “art”, synonymous with beauty, culture and creativity.
