CREAttivo #8 Upcycling in Domus
The awards ceremony for the eighth edition of the CREAttivo Prize will take place on Saturday 5 September 2026 in Aquileia, at the Domus of Tito Macro. The event will feature two students from the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Giulia Rossi and Katarzyna Kowalczyk, winners of the competition organised by the Maravee Cultural Association.
The theme of the 2026 CREAttivo Award centred on recycling. The students were asked to devise a mosaic design to decorate and complete a table and a number of chairs produced by the well-known Udine-based company Gervasoni. The challenge was multifaceted: to harmonise the mosaic design with the stylistic lines of the furniture, to ensure the project was both sustainable and feasible, to use ceramic offcuts from the historic Pezzetta di Buja art workshop as mosaic tiles, and to draw inspiration from the graphic and figurative motifs of Roman art from Aquileia.
This last aspect is linked to the purpose of these mosaic-adorned pieces of furniture. They will, in fact, form part of the set design for the show, which will take place on Saturday 5 (following the awards ceremony) and Sunday 6 September in Aquileia, entitled ‘Upcycling in Domus’, focusing on recycling and its cultural and environmental sustainability.
