From the Karst to the sea: the great mosaic of Monfalcone
A few days before Christmas, the large mosaic From the Karst to the sea was inaugurated in Piazzetta Montes in Monfalcone.
The mosaic, the sketch of which was designed by the architect Sergio Valcovich, was commissioned by the Municipality of Monfalcone to the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, which managed the execution phases and installation. It is an urban intervention of great impact since the mosaic extends for 12 meters and describes the surrounding landscape, illustrating in detail the characteristic botanical species and identity elements of the community such as the Rocca or the Gulf of Panzano.
The execution of the work was planned and started in the School’s laboratories during the summer months with the reverse on paper technique. Although the adverse climatic conditions of the last month of the year had made installation very difficult, the panels were composed and placed on site within the scheduled time. At the inaugural ceremony held on 23 December 2020, the Administration of Monfalcone applauded the work done, which will enrich an open space, lived by the community; in particular the Councilor for the environment and quality of life, Professor Sabina Cauci, expressed satisfaction with a mosaic that she strongly desired not only for its aesthetic value, but also for its educational value: a work that expresses the complexity and the richness of the territory of Monfalcone.
