Inauguration of the mosaic in Lignano Pineta

The mosaic intervention made during this year’s Symposium at the bathing establishment 1 in Lignano Pineta was presented on Sunday 27 June 2021. Event now in its ninth edition, the Mosaic Symposium, promoted by Giorgio Ardito, president of the Lignano Pineta Society, in collaboration with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, is an opportunity for tourists and Lignano citizens to learn about how a mosaic work is born.
For about twenty days six mosaic artists, Nina Biagi, Isabella Petrangeli, Beatrice Tagliapietra, Ilaria Caputi, Sabrina Kurdic and Viviana Mora Strohmenger, students of the specialization course at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, were engaged, with hammer blows and with a wide range of colored glazes, in the execution of Tribute to Carlo Ciussi: an intersection of wavy and regular bands that invade the entire wall and cross the number of the seaside office that stands out in the center. Giorgio Ardito during the inauguration explained its birth: thanks to an intuition of the art director Lucia Ardito, he looked at a mural painted by the Udine painter Carlo Ciussi (1930-2012) at the Auditorium in Milan. Through a complex network of exchanges and relationships, supported by the desire to dedicate a visual tribute to a protagonist of regional art, the regular and geometric motif that characterizes Ciussi’s expressive and formal research was reproduced on the wall of the establishment after an appropriate preparation of the tiled surface. In the recessed spaces, emptied of tiles, the mosaicists under the eyes of passers-by composed the mosaic in which there is also the contribution of those who wanted to try the experience (and emotion) of holding a hammer and handling the tiles and who attended the inauguration on Sunday to see the final result.
Appreciation was expressed by the authorities present: the regional councilors of Friuli Venezia Giulia Mauro Bordin, Mauro Di Bert and Maddalena Spagnolo, the councilor of the Veneto Region Fabiano Barbisan, the councilor for productive activities of the Municipality of Spilimbergo Anna Bidoli, the councilor to the culture of the Municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro Ada Iuri which highlighted the fruitful relationship between the public body and the private subjects who care about their territory. This is the case of the Lignano Pineta Society, promoter of the Mosaic Symposium, capable of developing over the last decade an open-air gallery through the embellishment of the various bathing establishments, also the subject of cultural tours in the seaside town designed by Marcello D’Olivo, with its sculpture park and villas surrounded by greenery.
Alongside Giorgio Ardito, the president Stefano Lovison and the director Gian Piero Brovedani of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, who contribute to the success of the initiative through their best students to create a work lasting over time and vibrant in the light that helps to orient oneself and distinguishes, together with number and flag, the various entrances to the Pineta beach.
Retracing the walk from the area of the former marine colony you will therefore see the animated backdrop imagined by the painter Gianni Borta for the bathing establishment 7 (2016), the bathers of Luigi Del Sal at number 5 (2018), the abstract forms of Giorgio Celiberti at bathroom 4 (2017), the urban project by Marcello d’Olivo at plant 3 (2019), the symbols of sky and sea in the waiting area below the end of the elevated walk in the clearing of the square (2011-2012-2013), in bathroom 2 the sphere by Luciano Ceschia (2020) to reach the recently completed mosaic of bathroom 1 with the vital and colorful graphic motif by Ciussi.
The representations and the authors chosen demonstrate the attention to the history and art of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the mosaic technique is linked to a knowledge and an artisan tradition typical of our region: a valid business card of our territory.
