Lignano Pineta Mosaic Symposium 2022

Giorgio Ardito, president of the Lignano Pineta Society, and Gian Piero Brovedani, director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, presented this morning, at the Hotel President, the tenth Mosaic Symposium in Lignano Pineta, in progress, and which will end with the inauguration. of the work Omaggio ad Afro Basaldella – Tribute to Afro Basaldella Saturday 2 July 2022 at 11.00 at the entrance to the beach Bagno 6 – French flag.
Since 21 June the students of the specialization course of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Francesco Maccuro, Eva Marinig, Angelica Orlando, Noemi Roma, Laura Seravalli, have been working on the completion of the mosaic that will decorate the renovated bathing establishment 6, in front of curious gazes. passers-by who can not only chat with the mosaicists, but also try to cut and apply some tiles.
The subject of the large mosaic, developed by the art director Lucia Ardito, combines three details of abstract paintings by the well-known Friulian painter Afro Basaldella with sections of a black and white photograph taken in the 1960s and published in the magazine “Harper’s Bazaar”, where Afro, in his studio, he is with model Deborah Dixon for a fashion shoot.
A large mosaic, two and a half meters by four, on which the five mosaicists have dedicated, through teamwork, more than two months of activity in the workshops of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, coordinated by teachers Giulia Palamin, Serena Leonarduzzi, Francesco Anchora and Luca De Amicis. In recent months they have faced and resolved not only technical but also interpretative issues with proposals that testify to the qualitative contribution that the mosaicist can give in the execution phase to the artistic project.
«The intervention at bathing establishment 6 adds another stop to the artistic seafront of Lignano Pineta», said Giorgio Ardito, retracing the history of the collaboration between the Lignano Pineta Society and the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. «This year the Symposium is in its tenth edition, a milestone that falls in the year in which the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli turns 100. A coincidence that honors this event capable of leaving a mark on the territory and conveying the excellence of our region».
The last entrance to the beach – Bagno affected by renovation and decoration, office n. 6 completes the mosaic gallery of the Kechler waterfront. Today the entrances to the beach of Lignano Pineta are no longer identified only by number and flag, but also by the mosaic image that stands out on the street side. All the mosaics were created by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli with different subjects and executive solutions to demonstrate a variety of possibilities and expressive forms

«Mosaic is a peculiar art of our region» said director Brovedani. «The School has inherited the knowledge of a trade whose tradition in western Friuli is documented as early as the sixteenth century. The mosaics created in Lignano, since the first intervention started in 2011 to decorate the shelter in Piazza D’Olivo, under the elevated walkway, demonstrate how much mosaic art is current, lasting, lively, suitable for interventions in urban spaces. The symposium formula also brings together not only enthusiasts, but also the curious, tourists and all those who want to get to know and see young artisans at work, perhaps trying to hold a handle or place a card. An experience accompanied by the explanations of the mosaic artists, happy to tell about their work and to explain, with the same enthusiasm with which they followed the lessons at the School, what they have learned and will now do as a profession».
A work in progress, therefore, which will have its conclusion in the inauguration on Saturday morning, when the mosaic dedicated to Afro will rightfully enter the cultural beauties of Lignano Pineta and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
