Mosaico & Mosaici an unmissable summer event
Thousands of people have already visited the Mosaico&Mosaici exhibition and the positive comments, from the visitors’ book to social networks, testify that this twenty-eighth edition has nothing to envy to the previous ones.
Mosaico&Mosaici is the summer event that the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli organizes to tell about the projects, works, collaborations and research carried out during the training year that has just ended. It is an exhibition that presents the best of the activity carried out: a showcase set up inside the School’s workshops to learn about mosaic, its different styles over the centuries, its execution techniques, its infinite expressive possibilities.
An expected and appreciated event, therefore, that is another occasion to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary: 2022 in fact represents for the Spilimberghese institution the milestone of a century of life, but also of commitment to prepare mosaic art professionals. Many and many young people have passed through this school, first boys then also girls, eager to learn a trade, that of the mosaic-maker. An art profession, we define it today, linked to craftsmanship and tradition, but not for this repetitive and banal, indeed, an expression of beauty, attention and quality precisely because it is supported by specific knowledge and skills, passion and creativity. In the three years in which the path to become Mosaic Masters is articulated, the students of the School develop their skills with study and a lot of exercise: the results of this patient and gradual work make up the exhibition.
The small interpretative differences of the peacock between grape shoots, copies of late ancient Syrian mosaics, or the large panels with decorative motifs made with regular tesserae according to the Roman technique, should be appreciated. It is surprising then to see the three-dimensional works of the students of the second course, characterized by brilliant enamels and gold: the eggs and the modular stele with the Virtues of the dome of the Basilica of San Marco. To these are added the gallery of animals and that of portraits that introduce new materials to obtain an effective description. We then move on to the third course with the impressionist views of Claude Monet’s garden and urban views taken from the paintings of the American Jeremy Mann, all translated into mosaics. However, the students of the last course are also required to make an effort to interpret and design: thus, personal works originate that deepen the possibilities of contemporary technique.
These are just some examples of what the exhibition offers and which will remain open every day in August, from 10 to 12.30 and from 16.30 to 20, which can also be visited on the occasion of the 31ª Rievocazione Storica della Macia, an event that involves the town of Spilimbergo on the weekend of August 15th.
