Mosaico&Mosaici 2026 opens

A selection of works produced by the students during the 2025/2026 academic year.

On this warm evening, the last day of July, Mosaico&Mosaici 2026 was inaugurated in front of a large and enthusiastic audience. The annual exhibition organised by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli has become a fixture amongst the summer events in Friuli Venezia Giulia and is eagerly awaited by many – not only by mosaic enthusiasts, but also by those wishing to immerse themselves in art, creativity and beauty.
Mosaico&Mosaici is more than just an exhibition: it tells the story of what was conceived, developed and created during the 2025–2026 academic year at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. The mosaics on display are a selection of works produced during the three courses of the advanced vocational training programme for Master Mosaic Artists, meaning that Mosaico&Mosaici is never the same as before, but is always a fresh and surprising exhibition.

The opening ceremony was launched by Stefano Lovison, President of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. In the courtyard, in front of a stage which was itself a mosaic work, were dignitaries, local councillors, master mosaicists, students and former students, friends, enthusiasts, curious onlookers and visitors from Italy and abroad. To reach the stage, everyone walked across the vast mosaic floor that characterises the outdoor area of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, admiring the motifs depicting the flora and fauna of Friuli Venezia Giulia: one of the many projects carried out over the past year, covering an area of 1,265 square metres.
President Lovison wished to thank everyone present, the organisations – whose number has grown in recent years – that make up the Consortium of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, the lecturers and all the teaching and administrative staff who, day in, day out, bring to life the work of an educational institution that is over a hundred years old and which has been able to grow and respond effectively to the needs of the labour market. This is confirmed by the figures: first and foremost, the high regard in which graduates, having obtained their professional qualification, are held by the mosaic workshops with which they begin to collaborate, both in Italy and abroad: this is recognition of the School’s dedication and commitment to teaching and to promoting the art of mosaics worldwide.

Next, Gian Piero Brovedani, Director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, delivered the official welcome address. Words of pride were also expressed by Mauro Bordin, President of the Regional Council, who emphasised that the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli is one of the region’s centres of excellence, capable of looking to the future whilst preserving a centuries-old tradition. Bordin also recalled the mosaic created by the School and presented to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during the celebrations marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Friuli earthquake: a symbol of the region at a significant and shared moment in its collective memory. The Mayor of Spilimbergo, Enrico Sarcinelli, highlighted how the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli represents a model of collaboration between organisations and individuals who have the good of the community and the region at heart, and once again emphasised the unique nature of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli: its role as a centre for training, promotion and production of mosaics, art and beauty. MEP Anna Maria Cisint emphasised how artisanal craftsmanship embodies the values of Italian history, tradition and art – values that guide future choices. The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli embodies these values and brings prestige to Italy through the art of mosaic. Regional Councillor Cristina Amirante, speaking on behalf of the Regional Executive, referred to the mosaic flooring in the outdoor area and emphasised how the Regional Administration wishes to encourage the inclusion of works of art in urban spaces and public projects. Art – and therefore also mosaics, which blend so well with architectural surfaces – can make a building or a place unique, in keeping with the tastes and aesthetics of its time, and serve as an expression of a cultural heritage that will be passed on to future generations. Senator Marco Dreosto reiterated the importance of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli for its role as an educational institution of international standing: a school of high international profile, unique in the field of mosaics. At the conclusion of the event, the Director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Gian Piero Brovedani, expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out, and with the dedication and perseverance of the students, teachers and all the staff of the School.

Director Brovedani also pointed out that the exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue featuring illustrations of the mosaics on display, published this year thanks to the support of Zanutta SpA and, above all, Banca 360. He also thanked all the local organisations and, subsequently, the companies that make the opening night a real celebration, one that manages to amaze every year and demonstrate just how much mosaic art is a living and vibrant art form.
