A mosaic at the Regional Council for Nemo Gonano
On Monday 13 February 2023, the three-dimensional mosaic entitled Vita, nascita, rinascita (Life, birth, rebirth), created by the student Margherita Toffolo, was delivered to the President of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Piero Mauro Zanin.
The work won the Prize dedicated to Nemo Gonano instituted by the Rotary Club Maniago-Spilimbergo to commemorate the illustrious figure who, in addition to being an active member of the Rotary Club, was for ten years, from 1994 to 2004, president of the Consortium for the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli.
Present at the delivery of the work were the director of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Gian Piero Brovedani, the student Margherita Toffolo, the president of the Communication Image Commission of the Rotary District 2060 Northeast Pietro Rosa Gastaldo, several councilors and the president Zanin who commented as follows: “A splendid creation, symbol of circular art that enhances the whole of Friuli Venezia Giulia, but also an explicit wish for the future of a student who combines research, creativity and dexterity”.
Choice among all the essays performed by the students of the second course at the end of the a.f. 2021/2022, the mosaic work created in Roman style and inspired by a Phoenician decorative motif was created by covering an ostrich egg with a mosaic. Delicate intervention, performed with care, in Roman style, which gave shape to a sculpture whose symbolism recalls life and eternity.
Precisely in memory of Professor Gonano, the work will remain for a year on display in the atrium of the Regional Council, accompanied by a plaque that traces the biography of the man who was also President of the Regional Council.
