MOsaici: the exhibition in Tolmezzo
On Saturday 15 July 2023 the MOsaico exhibition opened, wanted by the Tolmezzo Administration, in collaboration with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli and with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
The Municipality of Tolmezzo, which is one of the bodies of the Consorzio per la Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli (Consortium), has chosen Palazzo Frisacco as its exhibition venue, located in the historic center of the Carnic town, and the exhibition, which is spread over three floors, traces the evolution style and technique of the mosaic through the works created by the students of the School: from Roman floors to Byzantine sacred figures, from design solutions to contemporary installations.
The visit itinerary begins with a large mosaic surface taken from the floor of the Basilica of Aquileia: the reproduction is detailed and in real dimensions, the result of a survey carried out in situ by the students. In the room there is also a Byzantine-style stele, but interpreted with current forms: the figures are taken from the Basilica of San Marco in Venice. On the second floor, color triumphs: sculptures, carpets, furnishing forms, vases, all treated with contemporary techniques, where stone and Venetian enamels mix with materials of everyday life. Portraits catch the eye on the top floor: they are blow-ups of faces made in mosaic for the Mosaic Young Talent competition. Together with these particular artistic photographs there are historical and current images of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli to remember, also with the two films present in the exhibition, its one hundred years of activity.
During the exhibition, which will remain open throughout the summer, there are various appointments for knowledge and in-depth analysis of the mosaic, conferences and workshops to bring curious and interested people closer to this noble and ancient art.
The MOsaico exhibition will be open until 17 September 2023, at Palazzo Frisacco, in via Renato Del Din 7, in Tolmezzo. Hours: Monday to Sunday, from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 15.00 to 19.00, closed on Tuesdays.
